Synopsis

They gave her a choice: execution, or consent to be bound as a warlock’s familiar. Alice didn’t need to be a Harvard grad (though she was), to know the right answer to that.

Alice Walker was reading The 1872 Coal Mines Regulation Act and Miner Health: a Mediation Analysis on the Effects of Safety Inspectors, not because she found it riveting but because one of the professors on her thesis committee had written it, when a daemon named Abramel snatched her out of her body to swap her spirit for the spirit of a witch with whom he had a contract, leaving her stuck in Lily Ashton's body awaiting punishment for the woman's crime.

So now Alice is stranded in a world that's obviously a Victorian fantasy knockoff: England is Anglia, France is Galia, the Anglian Empire is ruled by Queen Regina, you get the idea. She’s been isekai’d, and into a fictional world at that. It could be worse, at least she wasn't truck-kun'd. But she didn’t arrive with a Destiny or a Call, she’s not a Chosen One in an epic isekai progression story or something. She’s a loose end.

But that means that, despite her familiar bond, she's also loose.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Rational Protagonist. One very, very annoyed with the Victorian-fantasy knockoff setting.

Slow Progression. More like slow mastery of a new body of knowledge.

Logic-based magic system, with no mana-bars.

Weak-to-strong. Or more like weak-position-to-strong-position; this isn't litRPG. (Not that there's anything wrong with litRPG, and I personally recommend The Legendary Poet, by Nejm.)

Romance. Probably. Eventually. But no harems; Alice might have been isekai'd, but she won't be putting up with any of that crap.
