Tidefall - Cruel Mercy

For fifty years, Tidefall has had no horizon.

The Storm sealed the island away from the world, leaving its fractured kingdom to decay in isolation. Kings, councils, guilds, faiths, and criminal networks now fight for control of what remains. Storm cults preach the end of the old order, while beneath the island’s cities and wilderness lies an older Tidefall, forgotten structures and buried truths that powerful forces are desperate to possess.

Then I arrived.

I followed the last surviving lead to those who stole my childhood straight into the maelstrom. The Storm shattered my ship and cast me onto Tidefall alive, altered, and carrying faint traces of lightning deep within my eyes. Storm-Touched, apparently.

To Tidefall’s rulers, that makes me dangerous. To its cults, it makes me sacred. To those racing to uncover the island’s buried secrets, it makes me useful. They are all correct.

I simply have no intention of being useful to any of them.

Whether the Storm cursed me, chose me, or merely made the mistake of letting me live remains to be seen.

Either way, it should have killed me when it had the chance.

This ongoing serial is adapted from actual gameplay in Tidefall, Infinity Fiction’s living-world text RPG. Maelis’s decisions are made during play, and the resulting adventure is edited and expanded into literary fiction. Her story will continue to grow alongside the world of Tidefall.
