When Earth reveals herself as Orra, a living world-soul long wounded by humanity, civilization is torn apart and remade into the Orrafield, an impossibly vast flat realm built from the ruins of the modern world.

No one arrives beside the people they love. Governments collapse. Weapons fail. Cities are scattered across endless Horizons, and survival now depends on the Ethos, a mysterious energy that shapes people according to what they repeatedly choose to do.

Lance was never chosen, blessed, or special. Before the collapse, he was just a young man who could fit in anywhere while never truly feeling like he belonged. But when he awakens the ability to hear the truth of Claims, the invisible bonds between people, places, power, and ownership, he begins stealing from those who hoard survival and giving to those abandoned by the new world.

To others, he is a chance.
To the people trying to crown themselves kings over the ruins, he is a problem that needs to be erased.
