Synopsis
A condemned sin-eater carries every death he has ever absolved — and the one murder he called clean won't stay buried.
In a realm where the Church turns executions into property and the dead into a ledger, Rook eats the sins of the condemned so their souls go clean to judgment. He has done it four hundred times. He has never once believed the words. When a cold coin arrives that should not exist — a death the rite cannot explain — the lie he has carried for eleven years begins to come apart, and the machine that made him starts to notice.
