Origins: Feather of the Wind — The Night of Black Feathers
Synopsis
Origins — Feather of the Wind: The Night of Black Feathers is the origin story of the Falcon (Kaze-no-Hane), set as the first chronological entry in the Shadow & Salt Universe. A young falcon is raised inside the Kurohane Shūdan, a militaristic clan of bird-species shinobi governed by silence, ritual, and absolute hierarchy. His defining flaw is "the delay," a sliver of hesitation between command and execution where independent thought begins to grow. Over 6 arcs (24 chapters), the story tracks his arc from obedient weapon to someone who perceives the system from outside it: a forbidden river pulls at him physically before any conscious rebellion forms, his bond with Crow becomes the one relationship the machine didn't manufacture, and the Elders' attention sharpens as his fracture widens. The thesis is "power imposed, not chosen," and the promise is escape, violence, and rebirth.
