Only I Can See Skill Tooltips

by Peter Frost Ongoing

Synopsis

Everyone can use the System. Only Ethan can see that it's lying.

In 2073, Gates power cities, skills determine careers, and dungeon raids keep civilization alive.

Ethan Cole is an underpaid systems diagnostics contractor with an F-rank support class—and an inconvenient talent for finding problems powerful people would rather ignore.

When a public transit Gate reports 98.7% stability while collapsing around thousands of commuters, Ethan sees something no one else can:

Actual Stability: 12.1%.
Critical Failure in Progress.

Surviving the disaster grants him access to a forgotten maintenance interface. Ethan can inspect the hidden structure beneath skills, expose their flaws, and eventually rewrite them.

But every revision has a cost.

Push a skill beyond its limits, and Ethan’s nervous system takes the strain. Change the wrong dependency, and the person using it may never recover. Make too many unauthorized edits, and something inside the System begins tracing him.

The deeper Ethan looks, the worse the truth becomes.

Skills are not blessings.
Dungeons are not empty worlds.
And the System was never designed to save everyone.

To protect his world, Ethan must do more than become stronger.

He must debug reality itself.
