Oddity
Synopsis
Deckard was just looking for a donut. The revolution found him anyway.
A signal stone he didn’t ask for. A man he should not have slapped. A spectral bird screaming light into the sky over Millhaven. By sunset the Inquisition wants him dead — and the only person willing to drag him out of the city is the rebel who planted the stone on him in the first place, having mistaken him for someone competent. She’s starting to suspect she made a worse mistake than grabbing the wrong man.
She thinks he’s a liability. Her network thinks he’s a weapon. Half the countryside thinks he’s a god. All three are wrong. They just don’t know how yet.
Deckard knows what he is: a man with bad instincts, worse timing, and a body that just won’t quit. He doesn’t want power, prophecy, or a cause. He wants pastries, peace, and a day where the bodies aren’t his fault.
But prisons fall. Armies march. And mercy, it turns out, has a body count all its own.
