The Model Does Not Account For This
Synopsis
Altina Ardan studies ruins.
Specifically, she studies the parts that don’t make sense.
A graduate of the University of Cyrentha’s most unnecessarily difficult program, Altina came to one very inconvenient conclusion early in her career:
The textbooks are wrong.
Not entirely. Just enough to be dangerous.
So she became a ruinwalker—and somehow ended up in a six-person independent team now widely known as the Site Goblins. Their specialties include:
- Surviving misclassified death traps,
- Arguing with bureaucracy,
- Discovering things that should have stayed buried,
- And filing increasingly concerning reports
Like:
“Preliminary findings: there is an elder dragon in a minor site.”
That kind of thing.
But lately, the mistakes are getting harder to ignore.
More sites are wrong.
More structures don’t match their records.
More ruins behave like they were never truly abandoned.
Altina doesn’t think it’s coincidence.
She thinks the model is broken.
And if she’s right—
Then the world isn’t just rediscovering the past.
It’s waking something up.
