CORE PREMISE: Ten years after a devastating demon invasion, the world is fractured. The story follows the intertwined fates of two friends —Ellie and Marifer—and two men struggling with their monstrous identities: Ernest, a resurrected amnesiac, and Foxy, an ancient Human Wraith hiding in plain sight.

THE PLOT: The narrative begins in the Barrens, a cursed wasteland where Ellie and Marifer live in mourning for Ernest—Ellie’s lover and Marifer’s brother. Their lives change when a mindless, undead creature saves Ellie from an attack. They soon realize the creature is Ernest, brought back to life through unknown means but stripped of his memories and humanity.

As they attempt to reintegrate Ernest into society, they are pulled into the lethal political games of the Silver Kingdom. Ernest is captured and sentenced to burn at the stake as an abomination. His execution is thwarted by Nicca (known as Foxy), a merchant who reveals god-like powers to save the group. Foxy who typically avoids mortal affairs, intervenes solely out of a secret, centuries-old love for Marifer.

Nicca’s involvement triggers Ernest’s mental restoration. Ernest recovers his memories and emotions, only to discover his true lineage: he is the son of the King of the Purples, the realm’s primary antagonist, who intentionally transformed his own son into a monster.

The conflict escalates when the King of the Silvers reveals his own corruption. Obsessed with Ellie, the King orchestrates a series of betrayals that leave Marifer terminally ill with a magical malady. To find a cure and stop his father, Ernest is forced to embrace his dark heritage. He journeys into the realm of the dead, confronts his father, and undergoes a final metamorphosis, returning to the mortal world as the new Shadow Lord—a being of immense power tied to the Void.

THE RESOLUTION: The first volume concludes with a fragile political stalemate. The King of the Silvers is temporarily held at bay, but his obsession remains a ticking clock. Marifer’s condition is stabilized but not fully cured, creating a lingering vulnerability for the group.

Ernest leaves on a journey of self-discovery, fearing that his new powers as the Shadow Lord may corrupt his soul. Nicca, fearing that his continued presence will draw the gaze of more dangerous entities from his past, retreats into the shadows to watch over Marifer from a distance. The ending establishes the central theme of the trilogy: the struggle to preserve one’s humanity when one’s nature is inherently demonic.
