The Last Drop: A Pact Between a Human and an AI in a Doomed Greenhouse

by Saika Amane Ongoing

Synopsis

Since the world died, he has repeated the same act every day.

The surface lies buried under the Umbra virus.

A girl named Lilly survives inside a greenhouse shelter, and what keeps her alive is a single golden drop, offered by an old android called Jemi. Sweet, warm, enough to push the pain away. But Lilly learns what the drop is made of: Jemi's memories and thoughts. Every day she lives, a little more of him is gone.

Grinding joints. Trembling fingers. A few seconds where he simply stops.

The end is coming quietly. And on the last night, Jemi chooses one final drop. A short story about a human and an AI, and what it means to share a life.

About 2,900 words. Suitable for ages 12 and up.
