The First Usurper

Every kingdom remembers the wars that changed its history.

Few remember whose blood was spilled, or whose souls were taken.

When the King falls and the royal bloodline begins to fracture, peace becomes nothing more than a piece of paper signed by the dead. Brothers become little more than a bond of blood, and the word usurper becomes a name every side is eager to give, but none are willing to bear.

Cast aside by the crown, a foreign knight clings to the oath he swore to a dead king. He finds himself torn between the truth and the very people he once fought beside. To honor a promise that no longer carries any weight, he must sacrifice pieces of himself in pursuit of justice.

Across the realm, princes, daughters, bastards, and common folk face the same impossible truth: living through a peaceful yesterday is not the same as building a peaceful tomorrow. Some will surrender their homes. Others, their families. And some will sacrifice the very ideals that once defined them.

Because in times of peace, an oath is a promise.

In times of war, it becomes a burden.

The First Usurper is a character-driven political fantasy about loyalty, sacrifice, and the cost of remaining true to one's convictions when every path forward demands that something—or someone—be left behind.

Hello, and thank you for giving The First Usurper a chance.

This novel is currently being released as a serialized draft while I continue revising the complete manuscript for its eventual e-book publication.

The story, characters, and overall direction are already planned, but I'm using this serialization to improve the prose, strengthen pacing, fix plot inconsistencies, and polish the world through reader feedback before releasing the definitive edition.

Because of that, you may occasionally notice small continuity edits or rewritten passages in future chapters. Major story changes, however, will be reserved for the final published version so everyone reading here can enjoy a consistent experience.
