The Cold Fief
Synopsis
Thornfen is the kind of posting nobody survives: too cold, too remote, too poor, and six weeks from a winter that has already killed two of its lords.
Owen has no idea how he got here. He's wearing borrowed clothes and holding a royal deed to the place. The crown expects him to keep things quiet and stay out of correspondence. Nobody expects him to last.
He isn't a hero. He's a logistics coordinator who spent his career keeping people alive in failed states and disaster zones — assessing, prioritizing, finding the critical constraint. He doesn't know this world's politics or its magic. He knows how to work a bad situation.
The fief doesn't need saving. It needs someone who will stay.
