The Brass Frontier
Synopsis
The world is dry. The legends say it wasn't always that way.
Fourteen-year-old twins Rowan and Maeve O'Sullivan have spent four miserable years in an orphanage, ever since their parents disappeared chasing a legend everyone else considers impossible.
Their mother, an archaeologist, believed an ancient civilization once possessed a way to create water from stone.
Their father, an inventor, believed he could make it work.
Neither came home.
Rowan has inherited his mother's obsession with the past—and her deadly accuracy with a revolver. Maeve inherited their father's genius for machines and has secretly spent years rebuilding his abandoned steam-powered automobile.
They've kept their heads down.
Until someone comes looking for them.
When armed strangers attack the orphanage demanding a mysterious map, the twins escape in their father's battered automobile with nothing but two antique pistols, a half-finished invention, and clues their parents left behind.
Their search takes them deep into the brutal frontier, where steam trains cross endless deserts, airships drift above canyon cities, gunslingers settle disputes at high noon, and ancient ruins lie buried beneath the sand.
But the twins aren't the only ones searching for it.
A powerful corporation wants to control it. Treasure hunters want to sell it. Outlaws want to steal it.
With Rowan deciphering the secrets of the past and Maeve rebuilding the impossible machines of the future, the twins must follow their parents' trail before the people hunting them catch up.
Because the greatest treasure beneath the desert isn't gold.
It's water.
And whoever finds it first could decide the fate of the entire world.
The Brass Frontier is a steampunk western adventure of gunslingers, lost civilizations, impossible machines, sibling rivalry, and a mystery buried beneath a world that has forgotten what rain feels like.
