System Divergence: Dissonance Protocol
Synopsis
Kenneth Williams has spent most of his life keeping complicated systems running.
Twenty years in the Navy. A second career building cyber infrastructure. A talent for finding the problem everyone else missed—and an unfortunate tendency to keep pulling at a thread long after a reasonable person would have gone home.
Then every human being on Earth receives the same notification.
SYSTEM INTEGRATION HAS BEGUN.
Kenny isn't nineteen. He doesn't enter the apocalypse with a blank slate, limitless knees, and nothing to lose. He's a middle-aged veteran, father, ex-husband, and cyber systems engineer with a daughter he needs to get home to and an entire adult life the apocalypse just interrupted.
Now he's alone in an impossible dungeon, injured and cut off from everyone he cares about, with one question hanging over everything:
Did they survive too?
The System looks like a game.
It isn't.
Levels don't download knowledge. Skills have to be learned. Injuries don't disappear because a number went up. Magic is real, but understanding that it exists and knowing how to use it are two very different things.
Kenny should probably be worried about surviving.
Instead, he keeps noticing things.
Things that don't quite fit.
Assumptions hiding behind convenient interfaces. Answers that create better questions. A System that can observe the world, model what it sees—and sometimes get the answer wrong.
And Kenny has never been particularly good at leaving an interesting problem alone.
System Divergence is a grounded LitRPG about earned progression, real consequences, magic that has to be understood rather than downloaded, and an apocalypse experienced by adults who already had lives worth losing.
Because when reality doesn't match the model, one of them eventually has to change.
