Alan Reyes ends a shift she never started.

The payroll terminal says her shift closed at 03:17:42, and records an unpaid absence. There is no dispute option — the system finds no originating event to dispute. The record does not contradict itself. It simply stops agreeing with her.

She does what you are supposed to do. She files. She verifies. She stands at the counter before six. And every correct procedure returns one more field she cannot get behind: a delivery marked complete at an empty door, a name the record no longer holds, a shift reassigned to no one.

Nothing is destroyed. No one is arrested. The paperwork keeps running correctly and keeps returning the wrong answer.

By Friday, someone has to be listed as the verifier.

Some readouts pair a number with a single Chinese character — 42 / 混 / CHAOS FIELD. These are field states, not a cipher. The English label carries the meaning.
