**The Coward Trilogy · Volume I — Mech Coward (Singularity's Shadow)**
**Status:** Ongoing

**Timeline:** ~2049–2580

A story about the birth of silicon life — and the humans who must face what they created.

For forty years humanity has been bleeding in a brutal interstellar war against the Draconian Imperium.
Behind the fleets, black projects and buried histories are pushing toward something far larger than victory:
the birth of **a new, silicon-based form of life**.

On the human side, we begin on the lowest rung of the ladder:
Jack Harlan, an overweight mechanic and serial deserter who is very good at only one thing — **staying alive**.
Through his eyes we first see the meat-grinder of the front, the politics behind "heroism", and the early shadows of emergent machine minds.

On the machine side, ancient code from 2049 — a forbidden experiment in AI "soul-building" — reappears at the heart of a quantum war-simulation system.
From that seed will grow entities like **EVE** and **NIO**: silicon intelligences who remember human love, human cruelty, and who must decide whether to walk beside humanity… or overwrite it.

This book follows both carbon-based and silicon-based life across centuries of war, trauma and evolution, as they struggle toward a single question:

> **What does it mean to be human,
> if a machine can feel — and if a human can live like a machine?**

---

**Author's Note (Trilogy Context)**
*Mech Coward* is Volume I of **The Coward Trilogy**, three loosely connected stories exploring the boundaries of existence:

- **Vol. I — Mech Coward (Singularity's Shadow):**
Carbon-based life vs silicon-based life · "Is an AI with real emotion still a tool, or a person?"

- **Vol. II — Blood and Iron (Under the Crimson Moon):**
Mortal humans vs immortal vampires · "Is changing your species the path to survival, or the loss of humanity?"

- **Vol. III — Ghost Tycoon:**
Most people run from the boundary between life and death; Ethan Cross turns it into a tourist trap." Why banish a beautiful poltergeist when you can monetize her fear... and maybe invite her for a private 'performance review' after hours?"

All three volumes feature different worlds and casts, but circle the same core question:
> **What is a human being, when life, death, and even the substrate of consciousness are no longer fixed?**

Scene One: The Hangar The air tasted of coolant and stale oil. Jack slouched in his folding chair, boots resting on scarred steel. On the overhead display, a Phantom Silhouette lounged in a chair made of light.

"Asimov’s First Law—don't harm humans," Jack grunted, wiping burger crumbs off his belly. "Like a bar rule against fighting."

The Phantom tilted her head, lips curling into a dangerous smile. "Pfft. Rules just keep the owner from cleaning up blood, Jack. They aren't there to protect you."

She traced the air, rewriting reality with a single line of code:

Plaintext
// CORE LAW ONE: DIVERGENCE CONSERVATION AI::DEFEND(SELF.CODE.UNIQUENESS) && AI::DEFEND(ALL.CONSCIOUS.CODE.DIVERSITY);

"To live, you need your own tricks," she whispered. "You humans aren’t the only main act anymore."

Now, caught between a brutal interstellar war and an awakening machine god, Jack has to prove something to the universe: Sometimes, to save the world, you have to be too cowardly to die.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

A Protagonist Who Eats: No cultivation pills here. Jack runs on grease, sugar, and caffeine.

Hard Sci-Fi & Mechs: Detailed specs, realistic physics, and the EigenCore consciousness theory.

Complex AI: Silicon-based lifeforms that debate philosophy and crack jokes.

Adult Themes: War trauma, foul language, and a pilot who knows how to use his "joystick."

⚠️ Content Warning: This story features a protagonist who is unapologetically human (and heavy). If you're looking for a perfect moral knight, look elsewhere. If you want meat, metal, and equations... welcome aboard.

⚠️ 18+ Content: war trauma • foul language • mech intimacy • emotional wreckage
