On Lockpicks and Leylines
Synopsis
A thief can pick a lock. A mage can bend a leyline. Kerrowyn Lightfoot intends to do both.
This is a more polished version of my Kerrowyn Lightfoot Prequel Novella. The story for the most part is the same, although there will be added scenes, and some changes to the established setting to match the rest of my Elanthari series.
Kerrowyn Lightfoot is supposed to become what every Lightfoot becomes: a thief, a tool, another clever pair of hands in the Duskwarren’s oldest criminal clan.
Unfortunately for everyone, Kerrowyn is very bad at accepting her assigned fate.
After a childhood theft ends with a criminal brand burned into her skin, Kerrowyn discovers something more dangerous than lockpicks: magic. A chance encounter with Alric Verenium, a Tower arcanist with more compassion than sense, gives her a way out. But leaving the Lightfoots means crossing her mother, abandoning her brother, and betting her life on a future no one like her is supposed to have.
This prequel novella follows Kerrowyn’s rise from branded gutter thief to Master Arcanist, featuring criminal politics, wizard school drama, living towers, found family, dangerous magic, and one deeply opinionated lavender pseudodragon.
