Hundeerde: Greenwatch -The Novel

by Ddraig Goch Ongoing

Synopsis

Hundeerde: Greenwatch is a five-part serialised science fiction graphic novel, updated each Friday. The story told mainly through three of those boys:

Sebastian Jarvis — son of the Arctic scientist who almost understood what was happening before it was too late. Thirteen years old, carrying things no boy his age should ever have to bear.

Lewis Vale — ten years old, oversized glasses, a stuffed toy dog he never lets go of. The sharpest mind in any room he walks into, and quietly aware of it.

Raven Cole — fourteen, the oldest of the three, who picks up a small dark stone from a stream before they leave Earth and never explains why.

Note: Not all five parts are told in sequence. Part 4 picks up directly after the events of Part 2. Part 3 will continue on directly, in Part 5.

Pre-Prequel (Short Story):
Part One: The Arctic Incident (Completed)
A short story set at a remote Arctic drilling station. A team of scientists and engineers make a discovery deep in the permafrost. What comes up with the drill should have stayed frozen. Lead scientist James Jarvis sees the pattern first. A closed system. An infection with no source. He gets close, but, not close enough. The story of a chain of lives, choices, and sacrifices that would echo across the stars for a generation. One glove, one tear.

Prequel (Short Story):
Part Two: The Great Collapse (Completed)
Three years after the virus, the world that remains is not the one that was. Red is seventeen, streetwise, harder than he has any right to be, leading a clan of twelve kids through the ruins of what was once London — scavenging, hiding, surviving. The Marauders are never far away. The Great Collapse is the story of one night that changes everything: a flight through the dark, nine stations walked in the underground, the evacuation and the journey out. A boy who looked back at the wrong moment, and a choice made in a split second that only one person saw. What happens when the person keeping everyone alive decides to run the other way?

Main Story:
Part Three: Proving Ground (Completed)
Seven years after the night that changed everything, three young men serve aboard the HSS Chasetail, one of three capital cruisers patrolling Hundeerde's skies. They have call-signs and ranks now — a life built from nothing on a planet with rings. Lieutenant Sebastian Jarvis flies. Lieutenant Raven Cole leads. Lieutenant Lewis Vale — the youngest officer in Greenwatch history — notices things that don't add up. And when Lewis notices something, it's usually already too late to ignore it. Greenwatch: Proving Ground is the story of what the boys from Earth became, and the first sign of what's coming next.

Part Four: Becoming (Current Story - In Progress)
When twelve boys from a London basement walked down a shuttle ramp onto an alien planet, they looked up at a sky with rings. Hundeerde is not Earth, it lies a thousand light years away — a world of the Hundel, a species of anthropomorphic canines. This is the story of what happened next — seven years that turn traumatised arrivals into commissioned officers. At Headwall Station, a working farm in the Greyfall Valley an old telescope lies in the attic that belongs to someone who isn't there. There is also grief. It doesn't announce itself, it just shows up — in hands that can't stay still, drawings in a notebook, a stone necklace worn around a neck that holds both memory and hope, a soft toy dog that is taken everywhere. It turns out that hope doesn't need to be from the same place as the people who need it.

Part Five: Earned Name (Planned)
Part Three ended in a standoff. What happened when Timo didn't hold? Greenwatch: Earned Name will close the loop, return to Earth, travelling back to what was left behind, and confront the system that has been manipulating what remains.

This is a story about what happens after the end of the world, when surviving stops being enough and something harder begins: belonging somewhere. Becoming someone. Finding a name you've actually earned.
