Chronicles of Lumiere: Light's Shadow
Synopsis
Injured and desperate, a thief named Kael flees through the squalid lower districts of the city. Retaining this forbidden artifact carries a death sentence by hanging in The Silent Forest. Kael is ambushed by a massive brute acting as an enforcer for a criminal named Arstrayer. As the law-enforcing Night Watchers close in on the alley, the recovered giant tears open a magical spacepocket. He draws out an Arbiter—a lethal, frost-enchanted spear. The stone unleashes a crushing wave of localized gravity and toxic sludge, slowing the giant’s spear mid-air and bringing the advancing Night Watchers to their knees.
Kael (born Dyean Jhale Kaixenix) is held captive by Merrida, a treasonous high elf Archmagus, after he barely survives a high-tier dungeon raid and secures a powerful aether-stone. Recognizing his rare survival skills, Merrida spares him from pursuers in the sewers because she needs his unique ability to unlock ancient vaults. However, before Kael can bargain for a commission, a violent surge of toxic mana reflux wracks his body. Merrida uses wind magic to stabilize him, revealing she has been tracking his exploits for five years, before Kael loses his battle with the pain and slips into unconsciousness. As he blacks out, he enters a dream state, reflecting on his true identity as a world-traveler and the fateful past events that ultimately led to his current dangerous predicament. A grander journey, framing his current predicament not just as a fight for survival in a grimdark sewer, but as the catalyst for a much larger odyssey across worlds where his unique, chaotic fate will ultimately be forged.
