ARCANA UNBOUND
Synopsis
Verath is a world in which every sentient being is born incomplete.
Not in the philosophical sense — though philosophers debate it endlessly — but in a literal, physical, cosmological sense. Every person born into Verath enters the world without a core: the seat of will, power, and identity that allows a human being to act upon reality. A coreless person is not helpless, but they are ordinary. They can work, love, age, and die. They simply cannot shape.
The only way to acquire a core — and therefore the capacity to wield power, hold civic authority, enter professional guilds, or even own significant property in the higher city tiers — is to draw a Card.
This is not metaphorical. This is not a ceremony. This is not a test of worth.
You find a Card. You draw it. It becomes you.
