A group of Alien Species calling themselves 'Players' has invaded the world.
They use Earth as their game field, launching a game to compete for Cards.

One night, Feng Ling put her discounted groceries in the fridge, pulled out a new boning knife, and walked over to the Alien Species she'd tied to the kitchen table.
Rotting. Tentacles everywhere. No head.
She'd been studying it for a week.
Tonight she opened its chest and found something no human was ever supposed to touch — a blood-red Card.

Every bone shattered and rebuilt. Every cell screamed.
And when it was over, a system announcement went out to every Alien Species Player on Earth:
