A visionary retelling of the whole of scripture as a single story about two hands , one that grasps, and one that gives

Every page of the Bible, this book claims, is one of two gestures. There is the open hand, which gives the first and the best, holds things loosely, takes only what it is given, and turns its heart toward everyone. And there is the closed fist, which breaks the ground and bends the outcome, walls in what is its own, counts it, and guards it. The Blasphemous Interpretation of the Original Library of Books reads the entire arc of scripture, Genesis to Revelation, through that single lens.

It opens with a quiet and unsettling re-reading of the Fall. The first sin, the narrator insists, was never really about a piece of fruit or a broken rule,  it was the reach: a hand deciding it knew better than God, that it would not wait, that it could hold its own outcome in its own grip. Everything that follows is only that one inward reach worked outward and grown as large as the world. From a garden of soft, unfading evening light, the story moves to a field where a brother is killed and the first wall is raised; up through the storehouse, the city, and the empire; through the hunted line of the prophets and a life of Christ stripped of everything the centuries piled onto it; through the plowing-under of the last living garden in the New World; and finally backward through Revelation, read, deliberately, "from the end all the way to the beginning", until the book that began in a garden closes in a city whose gates never shut.

Part vision, part confession, and part field guide for a longing you could never quite name, it is told by a narrator who claims no authority at all. I cannot prove the Hebrew. I am only the hand that wrote it down. Receive it however it reaches you. The result is a strange, tender, and genuinely dangerous book, a reading of the oldest stories that asks only one thing of you, the same thing that was asked at the garden gate. Stop building the wall. Open the hand. Wake up.
