Swords of the West

Erich Saphir was born to be a warrior.  A swordsman trained to harness and utilize elemental mana to let him fight far beyond his physical limits.

It was not a position of power or glory, rather a cold reality of imperial taxes.  His family needed the tax break that came from him joining the army and fighting in the eternal war that waged between Hollendil and its neighboring planet on the dark, miles wide bridge that stretched between their world and the next.  Warriors bled and died by the score, little more than fuel for the Empire's imperial ambitions, but that was Erich's fate so he took up his sword.  After all, what else was he to do?

But what if it was all a lie?  What if the world he lived in and the magic he was taught was nothing more than a ruse designed to keep his family weak and complacent?

What if he could be something more?
