Kirai, an Eldritch being who has spent a lifetime hiding his true form behind a silver fox mask, is forced to inherit a kingdom rotting from the inside. The previous king was a gluttonous hedonist who nearly destroyed the realm through endless excess. When the old king dies at the mere sight of what Kirai truly is, the mask becomes both a shield and a prison.

Two years of brutal, thankless work follow. Kirai bleeds the royal treasury dry to feed the starving, rebuilds what the court allowed to collapse, and drives himself to the edge of collapse—all while believing that if the people ever saw the tentacles and green scales beneath the silver, they would reject him.
