Echoes of the Devourer

Long ago, the Devourer—a colossal entity whose shadow could eclipse kingdoms—rose to consume the world. Its body was a living cataclysm of writhing flesh, bone spires taller than mountains, and a hunger that drank light itself. Seven ordinary-seeming people confronted it. No one knows exactly how they won, only that the Devourer fell. Its gargantuan skeleton now forms the entirety of Blood Isle, a forbidden land where jagged ribs pierce the sky like broken cathedrals. The waters surrounding the island run permanently red, thick and metallic, as though the beast’s veins still pulse weakly beneath the waves.

The Seven became legends called the Gods. They scattered afterward. Some lived hidden among humans. Some died mysterious deaths. A few had children. The rest? Vanished without trace.

But the Devourer’s defeat left a scar on reality. Those who linger near its remains—or carry its echo in their blood—begin to hear things. Feel things. Become things. The horror isn’t in the monster that was slain. It’s in what pieces of it refused to die.
