Mira Vale works at a cosmetic salon where genetically engineered aquatic organisms attach to carefully mapped areas of the body and consume unwanted fat.

The technology is safe, regulated, commercially successful—and considerably less glamorous than the advertisements suggest.

Behind the polished glass and cheerful package names are treatment maps, recovery tanks, consent forms, unhappy clients, ambitious marketing campaigns, animal-care limits, unreliable software, and an organism officially designated CBG-R4-118.

The staff call him Kevin.

Mira likes her strange job. She likes helping nervous clients make choices without shame, translating living biology into language ordinary people can understand, and preventing Regional Management from turning every ethical boundary into a conversion opportunity.

But every ordinary shift brings a new question.

Can a client purchase more treatment time than the body can safely support? Does choosing the Economy package mean accepting less respect? Can a teenager genuinely consent while an enthusiastic parent answers every question? Is a five-star review feedback—or a request for special treatment? And how many clients can ask for Kevin by name before an internal joke begins influencing animal care?

Alongside meticulous animal specialist Nate, commercially wounded receptionist Juno, and branch manager Tessa, Mira must keep a cheerful cosmetic business functioning without allowing convenience, profit, fear, or good intentions to erase the limits that make it responsible.
