The Memory Debt
Synopsis
In London, powers are not miracles. They are talents, licensed where possible, exploited where profitable, and paid for in life.
Solomon Ward is a memory investigator above an off-licence in Whitechapel. His talent lets him recover memories from the living and the dead, but every use takes payment in days, months, or years from his own future.
When Samir Khan brings him the last trace of his dead sister Aisha, Solomon reads a memory the police should never have missed: a blue door under Mile End Road, a man whose face slips into familiar ones, and a hidden market called the Mercy Archive.
The dead do not give clean answers. They leave fragments: grief, fear, lies, last impressions. Solomon has built his life on sorting those fragments into truth. This time, the truth is already reaching back for him.
