The Hollow Core Apothecary
Synopsis
Elian only wants enough medicine to survive the week.
Born with a Hollow Core, a parasitic magical organ that eats his strength when its slots run empty, he lives as an unregistered scavenger in Sector 4, scraping broken Beast Core fragments from the shallow Catacombs and trading them for Numbing-Weed. The medicine dulls the pain. It does not cure him. Every missed dose costs him control of his body. Every collapse risks something worse: the Soul Blight does not only consume flesh. It eats memory.
All Elian wants is a quiet apothecary, cheap medicine, and a cure before the last traces of his mother vanish from his mind.
But survival has a way of looking like power.
When a desperate descent below the safe boundary leaves him with impossible loot and a dangerous breakthrough, the underworld mistakes a sick scavenger for a hidden expert. Gang survivors whisper about the Ghost of Sector 4. Patients later call him a miracle healer. Criminals think he is an Inquisitor. Commoners make him a symbol. Nobles name him a threat.
Elian keeps trying to avoid becoming important.
Unfortunately, every attempt to stay alive makes the legend worse.
To cure the Hollow Core, Elian must follow a trail of forbidden medicine, stolen cores, noble lies, and records no healer was meant to read. Stronger cores may keep him alive, but they carry residue. Medicine may save the body, but memory is payment. And the thing he wants removed may be the only reason his soul is still intact.
The world wants a hero, a monster, a savior, or a god.
Elian just wants to remember why he wanted to live.
