Lurking within quiet, unassuming Casey Osbourne is the most dangerously powerful Gift of any living mage — "alive" being a critical qualifier. Magic like his usually kills its bearer. But, Casey doesn’t know that yet.

Then there's Casey. Jeans, sneakers, a mundane haircut, and a weird ESP-ish talent he’s had all his life. He does a fantastic job of blending in with the wallpaper, and he likes it that way.

That all changes when magic, real magic, comes into his life, and suddenly he's the farthest thing from ordinary. His Power is the kind wars ignite over — and the sort of Gift that saves worlds. Untrained and wildly unprepared, Casey and his friends are about to be flung across two worlds to stop a villain from their past before he triggers a catastrophic civil war.
