Reduced-Rate Reflections

Everything happened in an instant.

One minute, an unsuspecting soul was standing on the street in front of a salon that was definitely not there before. There was an unsettling, deeply unhelpful sense that something important had just stopped.

There’s no indication of what. Nor of where it went.

This is definitely not how the day was supposed to go at all. Or maybe it was. The world, including the odd little salon, is uncertain whether memory is a reliable concept.

But sometimes, things don’t need questioning. This, unfortunately, needs questioning very badly.

Before any of that can happen, though, wary souls are rather abruptly, unapologetically, and with no regard for personal boundaries, deposited into salon chairs.

A manager named FYI begins speaking as though this is all perfectly normal. No one else seems concerned. This is extremely concerning.

Here, every client is a roll of the dice. Every transformation is a surprise. And “before and after” may mean more than it should. It may mean several things. It may mean things that have already happened. It may mean things haven’t decided yet.

The unwilling client would like to leave. They are not leaving. They are, apparently, continuing.

Don’t worry about the client. They’ll be fine. Probably.
