The world has grown accustomed to believing that space is our only path to salvation. But few remember that the world's largest oceanographic corporation abruptly shut down all of its deep-sea projects in a single day, erasing decades of research.

The official explanation: lack of funding.
The truth: a panicked retreat from the ocean floor toward the frozen deserts of Mars and the search for distant exoplanets.

What did they encounter in the abyss, where light gives way to eternal darkness?
Was it another civilization—far older and far more intelligent than our own—that had always lived beneath the waves and never intended to share the ocean with humanity?
This is happening in our world.
Felix, however, ends up in another.
Sixteen-year-old Felix awakens at the bottom of an abyss in a different world, reincarnated as a creature most people know as the cute little pink animal from internet videos.
Only there's nothing pink about it here.
There is only darkness. Pressure measured in thousands of atmospheres. Neighbors that want to eat you. And spectacularly bad luck.
But the parallels between the two worlds are no coincidence.
Beneath the sea thrive civilizations we expected to find among the stars. On the ocean floor slumber beings beside which the deadliest predators on land seem harmless. And the questions scientists ask in one world are the very ones Felix will answer with his own skin in the other.
This is a story about starting from nothing, when your only advantage is that you still think like a human.
