Lumberjack was raised to be kind. To endure. To never ask for more than he was given.

Nobody ever told him why.

He was a child when a witch froze his village and everyone in it. He survived because he wasn't there. The Ice King found him in the snow and took him home, and the people of BKOM took him in like family, trained him, tested him, pushed him harder than anyone else. They told him his power was small. Common. Barely worth the effort.

They lied.

He is not a child anymore, and a boy named Lymfei has started asking questions with a terrible gentleness, the kind that sounds like mercy and lands like a blade. Questions about the village. About the night the Ice King happened to be passing. About what, exactly, is sleeping inside Lumberjack's blood, and why everyone who claims to love him seems so desperate that he never wake it.

The witch who burned his village is still looking for him. Something worse is looking too.

And the truth, when it comes, will not care that he isn't ready.
