Ghosts of the Bonneville
Synopsis
I’m guilty, of course, but not of the actual crimes I’m being charged with. I’m not, after all, a murderer or an insurrectionist, and neither was I complicit with the successful assassination of the Marquis and his eldest son, nor was I involved with the attempted insurrection, which never even got off the ground. But that final charge, sedition, is such a vague, catchall term. Who isn’t guilty, somewhere in their heart, of harboring those sorts of fanciful dreams, even if they’ll never cross into reality? Naturally, of that, I am unmistakably guilty.
I'm guilty of a lifetime of extraordinarily bad judgment, guilty of the simplest crime, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, guilty of friendly association with the person who did commit those murders, and who did attempt to commit the awful, unforgivable crime of making dreams into reality. I’m going to be punished, because the guilty deserve to be punished; that’s what I’ve been taught, and that’s what I honestly believe. But it would be a lie, more shameless and more egregious than my usual lies, if I try to claim that I’m not interested in making my own dreams, hidden deep inside my own heart, real, as well.
------------
Release schedule is going to be once a day for roughly a week, then dropping to probably once a week, on Wednesdays, depending on my output. This one I'm expecting 300k, but the last one I had a similar estimate and it hit 350. We'll see what happens. Hope you enjoy.
