They will not fight. The Archive refuses violence — not on principle, but because the outcome of a battle can always be blamed on the weather. In chess there is no luck, no hidden information, no terrain. If you lose, the reason you lost is you.
The winner’s idea becomes humanity’s operating doctrine for the next hundred years.
The loser’s idea is erased — still printed, still taught, and never again believed.
And there are no spectators in this hall.
The stands are filled with the people these men killed. All of them. They do not cheer. They are waiting for an answer to one question:

What you’re getting into
▸ One match per arc, three to five chapters each. Fifteen matches, one season.
▸ Every game is a real, legal game of chess, verified move by move with a chess engine. Each chapter links to the position so you can replay it. You do not need to know chess to read this. The board is a metaphor that happens to be accurate.
