The Bronze Age never collapsed. Its trade-empires calcified, split, and rebuilt themselves into something stranger: bronze kingdoms clinging to prestige and bonded labor, iron holds hardened into insular warrior-clans, and between them, a pragmatic guild-confederation that outlasted them both. A hundred years ago, ash fell for years, harvests failed, and half the old world starved. They call it the Great Dimming, and everyone still alive was shaped by it.

Serel Nightward has spent her whole life squaring herself against that older, harder generation. She has a guild-post to run, a dead husband whose death she has never stopped being angry about, a son fostered away in a rival kingdom, and a daughter she'd burn the world down to keep safe. She does not have time for gods.

Then the sky tears open over the marsh outside her town, and something falls out of it.

A wall of unfamiliar metal half-buried in the mud that spoke. A rival kingdom's priestess declares it the literal return of her god, dead and reborn through it herself. A warrior-hold sharpens its blades on the strength of old grudges and older pride. A merchant-envoy sees only leverage, and reaches for it with both hands. And whatever is inside that fallen wall wants something from all of them.

Serel just wants to keep her family standing while three kingdoms and something un-namable circle each other over the wreckage. But the deeper she's pulled in, the clearer it becomes that this isn't a story about gods descending to judge mortals.

It's about who gets to decide what a person is — and what's owed to the ones who never get asked.

Children of No Sun is a slow-building, character-driven alternate history — Bronze Age politics told through the eyes of the people on the ground who have no idea what's actually landed among them.
