The Secret Library

Hoggie and Scooter do not fit in at Regent's Park School: chubby, bespectacled Scooter often finds himself a target of the school bullies and Hoggie is ridiculed for her charity shop outfits. The friends much prefer the company of their favourite literary characters to that of their schoolmates and their local public library to the classroom. They have spent so much time in the library, they know it inside out. Thus, they are not surprised when, one day, a mysterious stranger hires them to help him find a rare and valuable book, The Mirror, hidden somewhere in the library.

But what begins as a treasure hunt quickly leads the children into a web of secrets: the library's architect, the enigmatic Society of Saint Jerome, London’s ancient catacombs and - most unsettling of all - the ghost of the Librarian. Their adventure takes a darker turn when their employer is found dead and London is overrun by giant crocodiles, ancient Mesopotamian monsters and flying dragons. And when Hoggie’s aunt is kidnapped, the friends must decide: is The Mirror worth finding, or are some books best left hidden?
