In the world of Nivrael, birth is fate. The Heavens roll the dice, souls fall where they fall, and a boy named Lu Pingfan — "Ordinary Lu" — rolled the quietest number possible: an orphan raised in a noodle shop, with no spirit roots, no destiny, and absolutely no interest in acquiring either.
