He was always kept from the dark because of her light. Shadows are proof of the light. But a light with no shadows can burn out without noticing. And there are no shadows in darkness. Only ghosts.

Shadow the Hedgehog crushed Black Doom, and yet the Black Arms have returned. Stranger still, a new foe named "Ghost" dares to challenge him.

But the strangest of all is who Ghost seems to be: the late Maria Robotnik, now clad in a spooky vantablack cloak and possessing all the powers and abilities of the Ultimate Life Form, and more. And yet, she doesn't seem to have any memory of him...? Rather, she only refers to him as "Project Shadow" as if, to her, Shadow had never been completed.

To make matters even worse, the Phantom Ruby has wrought the Maria he knew and loved back into existence no less. Is that her, or an illusion?
