Memes of the Prophets

by Ewen Cluney Ongoing

Synopsis

Eric died. He got hit by a truck, of all things. Then he was pleasantly surprised to discover that that wasn’t the end. Valrune, the God of Crossings, had an offer for him: a second chance at life, as a Prophet in a magical world, sent to share new ideas. He immediately ran into two problems. The first was that something went wrong, and they got two potential Prophets. The second was that Valrune’s assistant made him look like a character he created, a cute catgirl with lavender hair. The Church picked the other guy, leaving Eric to find his own way in a new world.

Now going by “Erica” (and not being picky about pronouns), she winds up befriending a summoner named Alyssa and a holy scribe named Langella. Together they start an adventuring party to make ends meet, recruiting two oddball warriors, Galatea and Amadeus, to shore up the group. Along the way Erica tries sharing some Earth ideas with the locals, but tic-tac-toe and conceptual art turn out to have unpredictable consequences. (Pasta on the other hand is a big hit.) She also learns that this is a world that’s known the influence of 67 previous Prophets, and a nation that bears the scars of a recent war that ended with a hasty unification of humans and elves against a common enemy.

Memes of the Prophets combines elements of Japanese isekai stories, humor inspired by Monty Python, Terry Pratchett, and Letterkenny, and an exploration of big ideas and how a magical society deals with them.
