Zek Rosewind is a legal clerk with modest ambitions and an orderly life: arrive on time, do good work, impress the right clients, and eventually rise above his cheap wooden chair.

Then a desperate illness leads him to an old ritual book.

The ritual works. His cold vanishes overnight.

Unfortunately, it also opens his eyes.

Voices call from empty alleys. Objects make sounds no one else can hear. Strange creatures stalk the streets unseen by ordinary people. Wealthy clients speak of forbidden goods, escaped objects, cults, curses, and the abyss as if such things are merely troublesome business matters.

Zek is warned again and again to stay away.

But warnings without answers are not enough.

If the abyss is real, then so are the powers hidden within it. And Zek has already decided that an ordinary life is not enough for him.
