The Weight We Carry
Synopsis
When seven impossible lights appear over the horizon, the starving village of Hollowford is given forty days to reach one of the newly raised Sanctuaries.
Its steward, Ilyra Venn, receives the class [Burden Bearer]. She earns no strength from killing monsters. Instead, she can take the hunger, wounds, exhaustion, poison, and fear of others into her own body. Every burden endured makes her stronger, but carrying too much may cost her memories, her identity, and eventually her life.
With ninety-six villagers, dwindling food, and a System predicting that fewer than half will survive the journey, Ilyra must turn frightened farmers and hungry children into a moving community capable of crossing a transformed world.
Some believe the weak must be abandoned. Others offer safety only to the useful.
Ilyra intends to prove that no life should be reduced to a number, even if she must carry the weight of every person the world has chosen to leave behind.
