OFF MODEL: Book 3: Verdant
Synopsis
A "root conflict." That's what they called it. That's not what it was.
Milo Kade and the Second Draft cross into Verdant expecting a straightforward cultural dispute between founding lineages. What they find instead is a fabricated history, a movement calling itself the True Root claiming sole legitimate ownership of an entire civilization — and six other lineages losing their homes, their livelihoods, and their civic rights to a founding myth that was invented three seasons ago and funded from outside the zone entirely.
This time, patient listening isn't enough. Milo has spent years teaching a city that unfinished things deserve care instead of correction — but some things aren't unfinished. Some things are actively, deliberately hurting people, and the hardest lesson Verdant has to teach him is knowing the difference.
Behind the curtain waits an old enemy with a grudge he's never let go of, and behind him, something considerably older: proof that the very system built to protect places like Verdant once erased an entire world rather than give it the patience it deserved. The Second Draft can't fix that. They can make sure it never happens again — one honest, unglamorous zone at a time.
For fans of found-family fantasy, moral complexity in progression stories, and a series that isn't afraid to complicate its own philosophy — Book Three asks what patience actually costs when the people you're protecting can't afford to wait.
