Synopsis

**THE HALVING GAZE**

Before there were gods, there was silence. Before there was silence, there were the Eyes.

Kael Ardovan was born nameless in the gutter-city of Rhaskavane, sold into a debt-pit at nine years old, and raised to believe that mercy is a luxury the powerless cannot afford. He should have died there, forgotten among a thousand other unpaid debts. Instead, he looked up one night into a stranger's eyes — and looked back.

What happened next had no name he knew. Strength, memory, and years poured into him, cut cleanly in half and taken without asking. The stranger did not die. He simply became *less.* Half a man, forever.

Kael has spent every day since learning the shape of the thing living behind his own face. His eyes do not need permission. Anyone who meets his gaze loses exactly half of what they are — their power, their gift, their future — and Kael keeps it, irreversibly, forever. He did not choose this power. But he has chosen, with total clarity, what he will become because of it.

Now grown into a young man of terrifying calm, Kael climbs through a world of warring kingdoms, demon empires, and gods young enough to still be afraid of what came before them — not as a hero, and not quite as a monster, but as something the old cosmic order never accounted for: a mind patient enough to take power one glance at a time, and ruthless enough to never look away first.

But the Eyes were not created. They were *left behind* — by something that lost a war so old the gods themselves don't remember it. And somewhere in the dark between realms, that something is starting to notice that its Eyes have opened again.

This is not a story about becoming strong enough to protect what he loves.

This is a story about a boy who learned that strength is the only thing worth loving — and about everyone who will try, and fail, and sometimes succeed, in making him wrong.
