Forget what you expect a story to do.
This narrator is not your guide.
It will describe.
It will omit.
It will misunderstand.
Sometimes it will even be convinced it's telling the truth.
Do not mistake certainty for fact.
Do not mistake silence for absence.
Every conversation has two meanings.
Sometimes neither is correct.
Questions are more valuable than answers.
If you find yourself thinking,
"Why would they say that?"
ask instead,
"Why did I believe it?"
Trust actions more than words.
Trust contradictions more than certainty.
Some mysteries are solved by paying attention.
Others are solved by realizing you were asking the wrong question.
Nothing asks for your belief.
Only your attention.
Read slowly.
Think for yourself.
And if, by the end, you are no longer certain which parts of the story changed...
