Alice and the Accidental Afterlife Club
Synopsis
Alice Fontaine didn’t mean to kill her aunt. Not completely, anyway.
After a mysterious accident claims her parents, Alice and her whiny little sister Ella are sent to live with Aunt Griselda, an absolute mountain of a woman whose obsession with cake and tea borders on sacrificial. But when Alice accidentally offs Griselda mid Victoria sponge and uncovers a family legacy drenched in necromantic secrets, things spiral quickly into the absurd. Turns out, their father was swapped at birth and is heir to a necromancer cult’s sacred book: the Necronomicon. Sadly, the book has vanished, and the undead are rising with a vengeance.
With apocalypse looming and their dastardly uncle Castor Darkwood plotting their doom, Alice and her delightfully unqualified crew, including sharp-witted siblings Dan and Jude, an elderly butler called Old Tom, a knocked out social worker called Celia, and one stolen, sentient nun’s head named Pleurocybella, the motley crew embark on a magical cross-country dash in a stolen hearse. Their mission? Locate Alice’s estranged grandparents, perform a ritual to halt the end of existence, and try not to die en route.
But between magical misfires, cake loving zombies, a group of short-sighted nuns and Celia’s insistence on trauma-informed practice, saving the world might just be the least of their problems.
