Synopsis

They carried the impossible thing straight through the front door of the empire that would kill them for having it.

The Symmetry Council's fortress is a thousand years of perfected order, built so that nothing true ever leaves it, and no one who enters leaves whole. Romana walks in anyway. Waiting to be found was always going to end the same way. At least this way she picks the ground.

Inside: an ancient machine reading its way toward a question no machine is supposed to ask. An archivist guarding a truth the regime spent centuries burying. And a woman at the top of the tower who has started to recognize a man she was ordered to forget.

But the building works slowly, and it works on everyone. Day by day it is unmaking the person Romana loves most, rewriting him from the inside, back into the weapon he was built to be. She cannot stop it. All she can do is refuse to look away while it happens.

Some doors open outward. This one only opens in.

Volume Two of the Unchained God trilogy. Dystopian science fiction about grief, faith, and the things a perfect system can't compute.

The full trilogy is written and finished. No hiatus, no abandonment.
