The Summer People
Synopsis
All twelve-year-old Jake wants is to get outside, breathe in the Montana cold, and explore the wide-open land his family calls home. What he doesn't expect is to get lost in a sudden snowstorm- or to find himself rescued by the most unusual neighbors he's ever met: pale-haired twins named Ash and Eli, who seem to know far more about the world than any kids their age should.
A pinky swear seals the friendship. But something else is already stirring.
When a traveling band of gypsies called the Summer People rolls through a local Renaissance Festival, Jake's world falls apart. Mysterious. Enchanting. Led by a woman known only as the Lady, they seem to recognize something in Jake that he can barely recognize in himself. And they're not the only ones watching.
Then comes the midnight phone call. The ransacked houses. The blood.
Now Jake's parents are gone, and the only people standing between him and whatever took them are a pair of twins with secrets, and an eccentric old man named Merwin who insists that the first step to finding his family... is to unlearn everything he's ever believed to be true.
Some adventures begin in the snow. This one begins in the dark.
