Synopsis
For thirty years, Dr. Hale has kept two practices. By day, he is the most distinguished surgeon money can reach, the man the very wealthy trust with their original bodies. His other appetite feeds elsewhere, far from home, on a calendar as patient as an old estate’s. The rule that protects him is simple. The two hungers never dine at the same table.
Then, at eleven past eleven on a Tuesday night, the bell rings. The young man on the doorstep has a bullet wound, a machine braced around his leg, and a composure that should not exist. He pays in cash, agrees to a follow-up he has no intention of keeping, and disappears.
