Bootleg Heavens
Synopsis
In Spithaven, miracles are sold out of a pawnshop. Jonah Rask steals them from dead worlds, strips them clean, and fits them to people who need just enough luck, strength, or borrowed tomorrow to keep going a little longer. Dockhands, widows, debtors, and fools come to him because the gifts work. They also come because no one else in the city can make the desperate feel briefly less doomed.
Jonah knows the price better than anyone. Every sale burns pages out of the book of his own life, and he has been living on the margin of that book for years. He keeps his shop neat, his receipts kept, his questions small. That only works until the House starts noticing the pattern, a field editor with too much authority decides to look closer, and the buried world behind his trade begins pushing back. In a city built on debt and stolen value, Jonah has made himself useful enough to survive, and visible enough to be hunted.
