The Unwritten
Synopsis
In a single hour, every child under thirteen in the kingdom forgot how to live. First the songs. Then the walking. Then the words, the faces, the swallowing - and last of all, the breathing. By nightfall, a generation was gone. The older ones survived it broken: fourteen-year-olds with legs that no longer answer them, sixteen-year-olds missing pieces of themselves they can feel like an empty socket. Plagues take the weak and the unlucky. This drew a clean line across the ages of children and killed everything below it. A line that clean is not nature. A line that clean is drawn. Aldric was standing in the market of Vhorren's Cross when the Forgetting came. He held a dying girl among her scattered candles and made her a promise he couldn't keep. Now, while the kingdom collapses around him - fields with no hands, guilds with no apprentices, priests screaming of the end times, and pyres rising for anyone strange enough to blame - Aldric wants only one thing: To find whoever aimed. Because somewhere above the burning land, two figures stood at a window and watched the first pyres light like a constellation. And one of them said: "At last, we did it." A dark fantasy of grief, collapse, and the price of a world remade.
